Sports and Recreation Center Šalata, located in the heart of Zagreb, just near Ban Jelačić Square, is one of the most beautiful sports venues in this part of Europe. With its excellent location, accessibility, and variety of offerings, Šalata is an ideal destination for sports and recreation enthusiasts.
The history of Šalata dates back to 1928 when the city authorities leased the land, which was then overgrown with broom, to the Academic Tennis Club. In 1929, the central tennis court (now the ice rink) was built, and in 1930, a clubhouse and stands were added. This was followed by the construction of other tennis courts and a small pool.
An Olympic-size swimming pool was built in 1946, and in 1949, the construction of the first concrete diving tower in Croatia began. The artificial ice rink, known today, was constructed in 1961 on the site of the former central tennis court.
A major reconstruction of Šalata began in 1985, two years before the Universiade, which gave the facility a new look and modernized amenities.
The total capacity of Šalata is 6,000 seats, with 3,500 in the stands and 2,500 on the floor (the stadium), depending on the type of program and event.
