Urania Cinema in Osijek, located on Šetalište Vjekoslava Hengla, is one of the city’s most important cultural and architectural landmarks. Opened in 1912, it was the first building in Osijek purpose-built as a cinema, reflecting the early embrace of film culture in the region. Designed by local architect Viktor Axmann, the building was soon awarded at an international cinema exhibition in Vienna. Built in the Art Nouveau style, it features ornate decorative elements and flowing lines, making it one of the best-preserved examples of this style in Croatia. For over a century, Urania has remained a vital part of Osijek’s cultural scene. Today, it operates under Kinematografi Osijek, offering a rich program of art films, local productions, and international festivals.
