Hrvatski kulturni dom na Sušaku is one of Rijeka’s most important cultural institutions and a venue that hosts a wide range of cultural, educational, and entertainment programmes throughout the year. The institution organizes and presents events in music, theatre, dance, film, multimedia, and visual arts. Its main hall is used for concerts, theatre productions, dance performances, conferences, and various public programmes, while the Kortil Gallery regularly hosts contemporary art exhibitions. HKD is also home to events such as the International Small Scenes Festival, the History Film Festival, and the International Puppet Theatre Review. The building was designed by architect Josip Pičman as a modern cultural complex for the city of Sušak and was completed in 1947. Today, HKD operates as a contemporary urban cultural centre that supports artists, cultural organizations, and event producers while playing an important role in the cultural development of Rijeka.
