Zvonimir “Zvonko” Bogdan was born on January 5, 1942, in Sombor. He is recognized as one of the leading singers of folk music in Serbia, with a repertoire that merges themes from the Vojvodina plains, his Bunjevac heritage, and a nostalgia-infused style celebrating love, landscapes, and the serenity of the Danube.
Bogdan is a multi-talented artist: besides singing, he composes, paints, and writes poetry, and has a deep passion for winemaking. His songs frequently dwell on rural life, past loves, free-roaming horses, and women—always set to the melodies of tamburitza orchestras, full of emotive expression and melodic warmth.
He began his career in the late 1960s with original songs that immediately showed promise. Over the decades he developed a distinct style that preserves traditional folk elements while interpreting them with deep reverence and emotional honesty. His performances are often communal celebrations, where audiences sense not only his vocal finesse but also his ability to connect through stories of home, love, and nature.
Bogdan is also a prominent promoter of the Bunjevac minority culture in Vojvodina, often integrating this identity into his work. He lives and creates in Subotica—his home and source of inspiration. His artistic reach extends beyond music, weaving together art, tradition, and a profound bond with his roots and the natural world.
