Umberto Antonio Tozzi, born on March 4, 1952, in Turin, is a celebrated Italian singer, songwriter, and composer whose career spans from the late 1960s to the present. He began in music playing with the band Off Sound as a teenager, then gained recognition as a songwriter with the hit “Un Corpo, un’anima.”
His debut album, Donna Amante Mia, appeared in 1976, but global fame came in 1977 with the song Ti Amo, which topped charts across Europe. He followed this success with memorable hits such as Tu, Gloria, and Stella Stai. Gloria became a monumental hit internationally, especially after being covered by artists who brought it to the U.S. market.
Tozzi demonstrated his versatility through different musical phases and high-profile collaborations. In 1987, he won Italy’s Sanremo Music Festival with Si può dare di più, and later that year achieved third place at the Eurovision Song Contest with Gente di Mare. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, he continued to release albums, greatest-hits compilations, and explore new musical directions.
His most enduring songs have become true classics—emotive ballads and pop anthems that resonate across generations. Today, Tozzi is recognized as an iconic figure in Italian music, having sold millions of records and earned fans worldwide. His body of work beautifully bridges nostalgia with universal emotional storytelling.
