Tindersticks is a British indie rock band formed in 1992 in Nottingham. The band was founded by former members of Asphalt Ribbons: Stuart Staples (vocals), David Boulter (keyboards), Neil Fraser (guitar), Dickon Hinchliffe (violin), Al Macaulay (drums), and Mark Colwill (bass). Their sound is characterized by orchestral arrangements, lounge jazz, and soul, with Staples’ baritone and rich orchestrations defining their distinctive style.
After several lineup changes, the band took a brief hiatus in 2006, reuniting in 2007 to continue their work. Tindersticks are also known for collaborating with French director Claire Denis, composing music for several of her films.
Their latest album, Soft Tissue, released in 2024, continues their trend of creating emotionally resonant and subtle musical compositions, solidifying their status as one of the most distinctive British indie bands.
