The Prodigy is a British electronic band formed in 1990 in Brighton, led by Liam Howlett, who shapes the group’s sound as DJ, producer, and chief composer. His pioneering approach to blending rave, breakbeat, techno, and industrial music created a bold, aggressive digital sound that redefined the electronic music landscape.
Their debut Experience (1992) made waves in the underground scene, but their global breakthrough came with Music for the Jilted Generation (1994) and The Fat of the Land (1997). Particularly, The Fat of the Land became a massive success, powered by hits like “Firestarter,” “Breathe,” and “Smack My Bitch Up,” propelling them to international fame with their raw, provocative style and innovative sonic palette.
Beyond their early triumphs, the band continued to evolve and deliver, discography including Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned (2004), Invaders Must Die (2009), The Day Is My Enemy (2015), and No Tourists (2018)—each album bringing renewed energy, contemporary production, and fierce live performance. Their fusion of electronic elements, breakbeats, hardcore punk, and industrial aesthetics sustained their edge and ensured ongoing relevance.
Renowned for explosive, chaotic, and visually spectacular live shows, The Prodigy created unforgettable performances using lasers, pyrotechnics, and aggressive vocals synchronized with high-energy audio. Despite the tragic loss of frontman Keith Flint in 2019—an icon of the band—the Prodigy continue on with Howlett's creative leadership, new vocal energy, and their indelible legacy in electronic and popular culture.
