Spiritbox is a Canadian metal band formed in 2017 in Victoria, British Columbia by guitarist Mike Stringer and vocalist Courtney LaPlante. The duo previously played in Iwrestledabearonce and created Spiritbox to pursue greater artistic freedom.
The band’s sound blends multiple genres, including metalcore, progressive metal, djent, and alternative metal, often incorporating electronic elements. Their music is characterized by dynamic contrasts between melodic vocals and harsh screams, as well as a strong experimental approach.
Spiritbox began their career with the release of their self-titled EP in 2017, followed by Singles Collection in 2019. They initially gained attention through online promotion and visually striking music videos, building a dedicated fanbase before embarking on major tours.
Their breakthrough came with the debut studio album Eternal Blue (2021), which entered the US Billboard 200 chart and brought them international recognition. They continued their momentum with the EP Rotoscope (2022) and The Fear of Fear (2023), further refining their sound and expanding their artistic range.
In 2025, the band released their second studio album Tsunami Sea, solidifying their position as one of the most innovative acts in modern metal. Known for their powerful live performances, Spiritbox has performed at major festivals and toured internationally.
The current lineup consists of Courtney LaPlante (vocals), Mike Stringer (guitar), Zev Rose (drums), and Josh Gilbert (bass). Despite lineup changes, the band has maintained a consistent artistic identity and continues to grow in global popularity.
