Soundgarden

Soundgarden is an American rock band formed in 1984 in Seattle, Washington. It was founded by Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil, and Hiro Yamamoto, later joined by Matt Cameron on drums. The band’s name comes from a sound installation in Seattle, and their music blends heavy metal, punk, and psychedelia, making them one of the pioneers of the grunge movement. Their first EP, Screaming Life, was released in 1987, followed by their debut album Ultramega OK in 1988, which earned them their first Grammy nomination. The next album, Louder Than Love (1989), was the first grunge album released on a major label. The band’s breakthrough came in 1991 with Badmotorfinger, which included hits like "Jesus Christ Pose" and "Rusty Cage". Their greatest success arrived in 1994 with Superunknown, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and featured hits such as "Spoonman" and "Black Hole Sun". Soundgarden disbanded in 1997, with members pursuing solo projects and other musical ventures. They reunited in 2010, but following Chris Cornell’s death in 2017, the band ceased activity. Although they briefly reunited for a tribute concert, their legacy remains central to the grunge scene and rock music history.
