Skrillex, born Sonny John Moore on January 15, 1988, in Los Angeles, began his career in 2004 as the frontman of post-hardcore band From First to Last, recording two albums before departing in 2007 due to vocal challenges and launching into a solo career.
Reinventing himself as Skrillex, he became a defining figure in modern EDM. In 2010, he released his first EP, My Name Is Skrillex, freely on MySpace, followed by iconic hits like Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites and More Monsters and Sprites, which catapulted him to international fame. He has since earned multiple Grammy Awards and solidified his status as an icon of electronic music.
His debut studio album Recess came out in 2014. In 2023, he released two albums — Quest for Fire and Don't Get Too Close — exploring diverse sounds from dubstep and house to emo rap and pop-urban fusion. Then, in April 2025, he surprised fans with the album Fuck U Skrillex You Think Ur Andy Warhol but Ur Not!! <3, a return to dubstep roots and a dramatic closing chapter to his label-era releases.
Throughout his career, Skrillex has won more Grammy Awards than any other EDM artist, collaborated with top-tier musicians, and launched other talents via his label Owsla, founded in 2011. He is celebrated for his electrifying performances, genre-bending collaborations, and trailblazing influence on electronic music.
