Shining

Shining is a Norwegian experimental band formed in 1999 in Oslo, led by multi-instrumentalist Jørgen Munkeby. Initially starting as an acoustic jazz quartet, the band evolved over time into a unique blend of jazz, metal, and avant-garde, creating a distinctive and innovative sound. Their early albums showcased jazz fusion and improvisational elements, but a pivotal shift occurred in the mid-2000s when they incorporated electric instruments and experimented across genres. They are best known for pioneering the "blackjazz" style—a fusion of intense metal and complex jazz—most notably on their 2010 album "Blackjazz." Subsequent works explored various musical landscapes, from industrial and progressive tones to modern rock, maintaining a reputation for energetic live performances and a continuous drive for experimentation and innovation. Shining has become one of the most influential and intriguing bands at the intersection of jazz and metal, known for their creativity and ability to merge seemingly incompatible musical styles.
