Armando Christian Pérez, known professionally as Pitbull, was born on January 15, 1981, in Miami, Florida, to Cuban immigrant parents. Raised in a vibrant, multicultural environment, his musical identity grew at the crossroads of Latin, hip-hop, and dance. He chose the stage name "Pitbull" because those dogs "bite to lock," a metaphor for his tenacious character.
His music career began in the early 2000s, with a breakthrough appearance on Lil Jon‘s Kings of Crunk in 2002. His debut solo album M.I.A.M.I. (2004) marked the start of his chart-topping journey. Subsequent releases like El Mariel (2006) and The Boatlift (2007) solidified his blend of hip-hop and Latin flair. The 2009 album Rebelution, featuring “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)”, elevated him to global fame.
2011’s Planet Pit followed, featuring the smash hit “Give Me Everything.” His 2013 track “Timber” topped charts worldwide. Later albums including Dale (2015), Climate Change (2017), Libertad 548 (2019), and the 2023 release Trackhouse showcase his evolution into Latin hip-hop and international pop. His Greatest Hits compilation (2017) became a Billboard mainstay.
Pitbull has sold tens of millions of albums and singles, and achieved billions of video views. Known as “Mr. Worldwide” and “Mr. 305,” he embodies global appeal rooted in Miami.
Beyond music, Pitbull is a successful entrepreneur: he owns the NASCAR Trackhouse Racing team, hosts a SiriusXM radio channel, collaborates with global brands, and founded the SLAM! charter school initiative. In 2024, he launched the Party After Dark Tour, featuring T-Pain and Lil Jon, including a dynamic performance in London that reaffirmed his showmanship and high-energy stage presence.
