Phil Collins was born on January 30, 1951, in London, England. He began his music career as the drummer and later lead vocalist for the British progressive rock band Genesis. After frontman Peter Gabriel left the band in 1975, Collins took over as the lead singer, contributing greatly to the band's commercial success. Over the years, Genesis became one of the most important bands in the global music scene.
In addition to his work with Genesis, Collins developed a successful solo career. His debut solo album Face Value (1981) brought him worldwide fame, especially with the song “In the Air Tonight,” which became his signature track. He followed this with many hits including “Against All Odds,” “Easy Lover,” and “Another Day in Paradise.” His music is marked by emotional lyrics, distinctive drumming style, and melodic vocals.
Collins also achieved success in the film industry, winning an Oscar for Best Original Song with “You’ll Be in My Heart” from Disney’s Tarzan (1999). Throughout his career, he has won numerous prestigious awards, including Grammys and Golden Globes.
Due to health issues affecting his hands and legs, Collins reduced live performances in the 2010s but remains active in music. His influence on rock and pop music is significant, and his hits continue to be popular worldwide.
