Paradise Lost

Paradise Lost is a British gothic metal band formed in 1988 in Halifax, West Yorkshire. They are widely regarded as pioneers of the death-doom genre, with their second album Gothic (1991) being a cornerstone in the evolution of gothic metal—dark, atmospheric, and emotionally charged. Over their career, the band has explored various musical paths. They began with a heavy and brooding death-doom sound, later shifting to a fuller metal presence with Draconian Times in 1995. They have also embraced experimental and electronic elements, producing music that remains melodic yet haunting. The core members are vocalist Nick Holmes, lead guitarist and keyboardist Gregor Mackintosh, rhythm guitarist Aaron Aedy, and bassist Steve Edmondson. Drumming duties have seen changes over the years, currently held by Jeff Singer as of 2025. The band announced their 17th album, Ascension, set for release in 2025—marking their first full-length since Obsidian (2020) and promising a powerful blend of melancholy and metal. Paradise Lost have carved an essential legacy in the metal world, influencing a broad spectrum of bands, with their emotionally resonant and immersive music continuing to captivate audiences globally.
