The Museum Of Lost Tales in Zagreb is a unique cultural space that fuses art, folklore, and multimedia into an immersive experience. Located in the heart of the city, the museum is designed as a place where ancient beliefs and mythological beings are brought back to life through contemporary artistic interpretation. The concept and design were created by Zdenko Bašić, a well-known multimedia artist, illustrator, and storyteller who has spent years researching Croatian mythology and forgotten folk tales. The museum features several thematic rooms that guide visitors through different regions of Croatia — from Turopolje and Pokuplje to Zagorje, Istria, and Dalmatia — in search of fairies, witches, water spirits, shape-shifters, forest guardians, and other creatures from the rich tapestry of local folklore. Through a combination of illustrations, scenography, lighting effects, soundscapes, and puppetry, these stories are experienced with all senses. The museum’s mission goes beyond cultural preservation; it aims to inspire imagination, curiosity, and a deeper connection to ancestral roots. It is designed for all ages — from children to adults — and offers a space for learning, wonder, and reflection. Every room unveils a new story, a new marvel, inviting visitors to return to a time when tales were shared around the hearth and kept the spirit of the community alive.
