Mnozil Brass is an Austrian brass septet founded in Vienna in 1992. Several founding members graduated from the Vienna College of Music, and the group took its name from “Gasthaus Mnozil,” a pub opposite the conservatory where they first met and played together.
The ensemble includes three trumpets (Thomas Gansch, Robert Rother, Roman Rindberger), three trombones (Leonhard Paul, Gerhard Füßl, Zoltan Kiss), and tuba (Wilfried Brandstötter). Their repertoire is extremely diverse: classical music, jazz, pop, operetta, schlager, film themes, popular songs, and improvisation — often performed without sheet music.
A defining feature of their performances is humour: theatrical sketches, parodies, and comedic elements woven into the show alongside virtuoso musical execution. Audiences often refer to them as the “Monty Python of the musical world” because of their absurdist, sharply funny style.
Mnozil Brass performs extensively each year, appearing in prestigious concert halls, theaters, festivals, and concert series around the world. Their productions are highly polished — combining visual theatre and stage design with acoustic excellence. They have also been involved in operetta and theater productions and have composed film scores.
They are known not only for their musicianship but also for their ability to engage a wide audience — lovers of classical and jazz music, fans of humor, and those who enjoy unusual musical combinations.
