Meri Cetinić was born on June 15, 1953, in Split, Croatia. Trained as a pianist, she built her career as a singer-songwriter and performer of pop and easy listening music. She completed her musical education in Split and graduated in music from a teacher's academy.
Her career began in the late 1960s with the group CHE, and at the age of 17, she toured the Soviet Union as a lead vocalist with the band Delfini. She gained broader recognition in 1973 as a member of the group More, performing as a singer and pianist and recording hits such as “More”, “Samo simpatija”, and “Gdje god da pođeš”.
Her solo career started in 1979 with the release of her debut album Meri. In 1980, she released the author album Ja sam žena, which became a milestone in Croatian pop music. During the 1980s, she released several successful albums, including U prolazu, As, Prašina s puta, Meri VI, Potraži me, and Zlatni snovi, many of which achieved gold, platinum, or diamond sales.
She has released twelve studio albums, numerous singles, and several compilations that highlight her most iconic work. She is also known for her collaborations with other artists, particularly memorable duets with Tedi Spalato and Tomislav Ivčić.
With her distinctive voice, emotional delivery, and songwriting talent, she is regarded as one of the most influential female figures in Croatian music. Her career is marked by critical acclaim and lasting impact on the regional music scene.
