Matija Cvek was born on March 9, 1993, in Zagreb, Croatia. He discovered his passion for music at a very young age and formally began vocal training at 16 with guidance from pedagogue Denis Vasilj. His debut single “Visine” in 2018 became a viral hit in Croatia, setting the stage for his rising music career.
He followed up with radio successes such as “Praviš me ludim” (pop-funk), “Probudi se” (a funk collaboration with TBF), “Drama,” “Nasloni se” featuring Matija Dedić, and the highly emotional ballad “Ptice.” “Ptice” won the Zagreb Festival in 2021 and earned him Porin awards for Best Pop Album (Izbirljivo i slučajno, 2021) and Best Male Vocal Performance.
In early 2022, his duet with Eni Jurišić, “Trebaš li me,” reached No. 1 on the HR Top 40, winning Song of the Year awards at Zlatni Studio, Cesarica, and Porin (for best vocal collaboration). He released a live jazz album Izbirljivo i namjerno with Big Band Bjelovar in December 2022.
His second studio album Vile se ovdje igraju appeared in September 2023, featuring ten original tracks including the single “Kraj Save.” Backed by his band The Funkensteins, he has performed across major Croatian venues to acclaim.
Matija composes songs while walking, drawing inspiration from nature, people, and everyday observations. Despite fame, he remains grounded—often referring to himself as a garage musician who focuses on creating meaningful music, not chasing celebrity.
In his personal life, Matija became a father in February 2024 to a baby girl with partner Miriam Cikron. His authenticity, vocal strength, and artistic integrity continue to solidify his position as one of the most respected voices in the region.
