Mate Bulić was born on September 9, 1957, in Donja Lastva near Trogir, Croatia, and grew up in Bukovica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in a family deeply appreciating Dalmatian and popular music.
Although he initially pursued economics academically, his passion for music led him to perform in Zagreb klapa groups during the early 1980s. At the same time, he began performing in Germany within Croatian emigrant communities. By the late 1980s, he committed fully to a solo singing career abroad.
Throughout the 1990s, Bulić released several albums—including Eh, moj druže beogradski and Srce je moje kamen—that blended traditional Dalmatian melodies with popular and folk elements. He became especially beloved among diaspora communities, performing extensively across Europe and Australia at festivals, klapa events, and community gatherings.
His voice is characterized by a rich, warm tenor and expressive delivery. His repertoire often conveys nostalgic longing and patriotic sentiment, merging classic Dalmatian folk with modern popular sensibilities.
Considered a cultural ambassador to the Croatian diaspora, Mate Bulić has cultivated a loyal following in Germany, Switzerland, Australia, and the USA. He continues recording albums and performing live, remaining an icon of authenticity in Croatian music.
