Mangroove is a Croatian soul-jazz band from Zagreb, formed in the early 2000s. Known for their warm sound and distinct musical character, they blend elements of soul, jazz, funk, and pop into an expressive fusion that radiates both melancholy and optimism. Mangroove’s music grows from authenticity – from lived emotions, shared experiences, and a sincere view of the world.
The band consists of Željka Veverec (vocals), Toni Starešinić (keyboards), Matej Huljev (guitar), Hrvoje Kaučić (drums), Niko Radas (bass), Igor Dorotić (trumpet), and Grgur Savić (saxophone). While the instrumental core carries strong male energy, the sound is deeply infused with the feminine sensibility of Željka’s voice – soft yet powerful, intuitive, and emotionally rich.
Their first single “Vrijeme” introduced them to a wider audience, announcing their debut album Svijet za nas (“A World for Us”). The songs begin in a minor key of loss and longing but resolve in harmonic brightness – in cathartic major chords that leave the listener filled with hope. Their sound bridges introspection and movement, emotion and rhythm, melancholy and celebration.
In 2006, Mangroove received awards from the Croatian Composers’ Society and the Croatian Musicians’ Union. Their creative energy was recognized by producer Samir Kadribašić, who collaborated with them on their debut album released under IDM Music / Tom Tom Music. The band has appeared on national television and performed across festivals and concert stages, winning audiences with their sincerity and groove.
Mangroove is more than a band – it’s an experience. A call to dance, feel, and listen. Or, in their own words: “Get your feet ready, tune your ears, and enjoy – it’s time for Mangroove.”
