M83

M83 is a French electronic and ambient band formed in 2001 in Antibes, France, by Anthony Gonzalez. The band's name is derived from the Messier 83 spiral galaxy. M83 is known for blending synth-pop, shoegaze, and dream pop elements to create atmospheric and emotionally rich music. Anthony Gonzalez started M83 as a solo project, later expanding the lineup to include guitarist Joa Erol and drummer Loic Maurin. The band gained international recognition with the album Before the Dawn Heals Us (2005), but their major breakthrough came with Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming (2011), featuring hit singles like “Midnight City.” The album received critical acclaim and significantly boosted the band’s popularity. M83 is also noted for composing music for films and video games, broadening their artistic reach.
