Lynyrd Skynyrd is an American southern rock band formed in 1964 in Jacksonville, Florida. They are known as pioneers of the southern rock genre, blending rock, blues, and country music. The band is famous for hits like “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird,” which have become iconic anthems in American rock.
The founding members were Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington, and Allen Collins, with many members passing through the band over the years. Their debut album, “(Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd),” released in 1973, quickly gained public attention. Despite their success in the 1970s, their career was marred by tragedies, including a fatal plane crash in 1977 that claimed the lives of several members.
Following the crash, the band disbanded but reunited in 1987 and continued to perform, albeit with a different lineup. Lynyrd Skynyrd remains an influential force in rock music, celebrated for their energetic performances and distinctive sound.
