Luka Šulić is a Croatian-Slovenian cellist born in Maribor in 1987. He began cello lessons at the age of five and entered the Zagreb Academy of Music at fifteen, graduating at eighteen. He further honed his skills at institutions in Vienna before completing a master’s degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London in 2011.
A decorated musician, Šulić won major international awards, including both first and special prizes at the Lutosławski International Cello Competition in Warsaw (2009) and the European Broadcasting Union’s “New Talent” prize (2006), affirming his exceptional artistry.
He rose to fame in 2011 as half of the duo 2CELLOS, alongside Stjepan Hauser. Their cello cover of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” went viral on YouTube, earning them a contract with Sony Masterworks and an invitation to tour with Elton John.
