Kyoto Jazz Massive

Kyoto Jazz Massive is a pioneering Japanese crossover jazz project led by brothers Shuya and Yoshihiro Okino. They began as a DJ duo in Kyoto in the early 1990s and gained wider attention with a 1994 compilation showcasing their distinct sound. Their major international breakthrough came in the early 2000s with the release of the acclaimed album Spirit of the Sun, which positioned them as global leaders in the genre. Their music blends jazz, funk, house, broken beat, bossa nova, and electronic elements. Since 2004, they have also performed as a live band, often featuring renowned vocalists. They have toured extensively across Europe and Asia, known for their elegant yet dancefloor-ready productions. To mark 30 years of their project, they released new material that bridges past and present, reaffirming their innovative status. Shuya runs a well-known club in Tokyo, while Yoshihiro manages his own label in Osaka. Their influence on the global crossover jazz scene remains significant.
