Klapa Šufit

Klapa Šufit was founded in 1992 by a group of talented high school students singing together in the attic—a "šufit"—of their school in Split. They made their grand debut at the Festival of Dalmatian Klapa in Omiš in 1994, as the youngest male klapa in festival history, and soon transitioned into a formal cultural society. Since 2003, the ensemble has performed with a core lineup still active today. Under the artistic direction of Jasminko Šetka, Šufit reached new heights in the 2000s, winning the Omiš festival three consecutive years (2006–2008)—a record feat that cemented their reputation for excellence in traditional klapa singing. They blend classic a cappella harmonies with modern arrangements, occasionally including instrumental accompaniment, offering a fresh take on the Dalmatian tradition. Their debut album Dobro jutro more (1999) was followed by celebrated releases like Ponoć je mila moja majko and Ne diraj moju ljubav, the latter becoming a klapa classic with millions of online plays and widespread recognition. Šufit performs extensively across Croatia and Europe—in Germany, Italy, France, and Bosnia & Herzegovina—and appears regularly at cultural events and festivals. Their live performances are known for emotional resonance, audience interaction, and strong connection to Dalmatian roots. Marking their 30th anniversary, the group performed a milestone concert at Zagreb’s Lisinski Hall, where they were honored for their longstanding contributions to Croatian music. From humble beginnings in a school attic, Klapa Šufit has grown into one of Croatia’s most respected and innovative klapa ensembles.
