Kiril Džajkovski (also known simply as Kiril or Djaikovski) is a Macedonian electronic musician, composer, and one of the founding figures of the Balkan Beat phenomenon. He began his career in the early 1980s with Bastion, one of Yugoslavia’s first synth-pop bands, and later joined the legendary group Leb i Sol, touring across the Balkans and Europe.
In the 1990s, after relocating to Australia, Kiril began blending Macedonian ethnic music with electronic production, which resulted in the critically acclaimed EP Synthetic Theatre and the full-length album Homebound. These releases garnered global praise—including from critics in the United States, Canada, the UK, Spain, and Japan.
Over the years, he released notable singles and EPs such as Jungle Shadow, Primitive Science, Lion’s Den, Spin Off, and Hell of a Road. He became a fixture on major European festivals like Exit, INmusic, Sziget, and Pohoda, performing explosive live shows with his multi-instrumental band and guest vocalists such as TK Wonder, MC Wasp, and Ghetto Priest.
Kiril is also a highly respected composer for film and theatre. His credits include acclaimed soundtracks for Milcho Manchevski’s Dust and Shadows, Darko Mitrevski’s Balcancan, and Ivo Trajkov’s The Great Water, for which he won Best Music at the Valencia Film Festival. His collaboration with director Aleksandar Popovski spans over 20 theatre and ballet projects across the Balkans and Europe.
In 2025, Kiril marked the 20th anniversary of the Balcancan OST with a remastered release that gained renewed attention after his track “Brothel Tango” appeared in Marvel/Disney’s Daredevil: Born Again. On April 6, he presented a celebrated live concert of his film music with a 30-piece orchestra at the National Opera and Ballet in North Macedonia, offering audiences a retrospective of his 25-year cinematic and musical legacy.
