Kerber is a Serbian hard rock band formed in 1981 in Belgrade. Led by charismatic vocalist Goran “Šepa” Šepa, guitarists Tomislav “Tomica” Nikolić and Branislav “Bane” Božinović, alongside bassist Zoran Stamenković and drummer Zoran Ćosić, the band became known for their powerful vocals, melodic riffs, and socially conscious lyrics delivered with energy and emotion.
Their debut album Nebo je malo za sve (1983) featured hits like “Mezimac” and the title track, marking them as one of Yugoslavia’s most promising young rock bands. Follow-up albums Rat u zori (1984) and Seobe (1986) reinforced their popularity with classics like “Još samo ovu noć mi daj” and “Kad ljubav izda.” Their 1988 release Ljudi i bogovi showcased their artistic maturity and enduring ballads.
In the early 1990s, lineup changes came amid the breakup of Yugoslavia, and Peta strana sveta (1990) reflected a shift in theme and tone shaped by turbulent regional realities. Despite less frequent releases in subsequent decades, the band remained active and engaged their loyal fan base through retrospectives, compilations, and live performances.
A recent comeback single titled “Nova nada” presents a more introspective yet still energetically traditional sound that highlights Šepa’s vocal strengths. Kerber continues to perform regionally, maintaining their cult status as staples of the former Yugoslav rock scene.
With over forty years in music, Kerber is celebrated for their emotional ballads and hard rock anthems. Their melodic yet aggressive sound remains a significant contribution to the region’s musical heritage.
