Kasabian is a British rock band formed in 1997 in Leicester. The original lineup included vocalist Tom Meighan, guitarist and primary songwriter Serge Pizzorno, bassist Chris Edwards, and guitarist Chris Karloff. Drummer Ian Matthews joined a few years later and became a permanent member.
They rose to fame in the early 2000s with a unique sound blending alternative rock, Britpop, and electronic music. Their debut album Kasabian (2004) featured standout tracks like “Club Foot” and “L.S.F.” Follow-up albums such as Empire and West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum further established their status as innovative and genre-bending artists. The albums Velociraptor! (2011) and 48:13 (2014) pushed the boundaries even more, incorporating psychedelic and minimalist influences.
In 2020, longtime frontman Tom Meighan departed the band. Serge Pizzorno stepped up as the lead vocalist, ushering in a new creative direction. Their 2022 album The Alchemist's Euphoria reflected a more experimental and introspective phase in the band’s evolution.
In July 2024, they released their eighth studio album, Happenings, the shortest of their career at just 28 minutes. The album blends psych-pop, art rock, and dance influences, while maintaining the band’s signature energy and style.
Renowned for their electrifying live performances, Kasabian have headlined major festivals including Glastonbury and Reading. Over the years, they have earned multiple awards and built a loyal global fanbase. The current lineup features Serge Pizzorno, Chris Edwards, Ian Matthews, and Tim Carter.
