Jurica Pađen was born on February 3, 1955, in Zagreb and is regarded as one of the most influential Croatian rock musicians, songwriters, and guitarists. His career spans more than four decades and has played a significant role in shaping the rock music landscape in Croatia and the wider region. From an early age, he was drawn to music, particularly inspired by British and American rock bands of the 1960s. He studied classical guitar at music school, which provided a strong foundation for his later work as a performer and composer.
Pađen began his professional career playing in several local bands before gaining wider recognition as a member of the pioneering rock group Grupa 220. He later joined the band Parni valjak, contributing as a guitarist and songwriter on two studio albums. In 1978, he founded the rock band Aerodrom, which became the defining project of his career. As the band’s leader, principal songwriter, and guitarist, Pađen developed a sound that blended progressive rock, new wave, and classic rock elements, helping Aerodrom achieve widespread popularity.
During the 1980s, Aerodrom emerged as one of the most prominent rock bands in the region, producing songs that became enduring classics. After the band initially disbanded toward the end of the decade, Pađen continued his musical journey through collaborations with other major acts, including a period of work with the influential band Azra. In the 1990s, he formed Pađen Band, maintaining an active presence as a songwriter and live performer.
In 2000, Pađen revived Aerodrom under the name Jurica Pađen & Aerodrom, releasing new material and returning to regular touring. Alongside his band work, he has pursued solo projects and collaborated extensively as a session musician, composer, and producer. His versatility and sustained creative output have made him a respected figure across generations.
Today, Jurica Pađen is recognized as a cornerstone of Croatian rock music, admired for his longevity, adaptability, and lasting artistic impact.
