Jinx is a pop-rock band from Zagreb, Croatia, formed in 1993 under the name High Jinx. The band was founded by guitarist and songwriter Coco Mosquito and vocalist Jadranka Bastajić Yaya, soon joined by other members. After early performances and rising popularity, they shortened their name to Jinx.
Their debut album, Sextasy (1995), was recorded in English. Wider recognition came with the album Second Hand (1997), featuring hits like “Smijem se” and “Brazil.” Their music stood out for its fresh mix of pop, rock, and funk influences, quickly capturing the attention of domestic audiences.
With the release of Pompei – Ljetna ploča katastrofe (1999), Jinx solidified their place in Croatian pop music, delivering memorable tracks like “Bye Bye Baby Bye” and “Koliko suza za malo sna.” Their 2001 album Avantura počinje brought another major hit, “Tamo gdje je sve po mom.” Despite success, the band paused activity in 2002.
In 2007, Jinx made a strong comeback with the album Na zapadu. This was followed by Diksilend (2010), featuring the popular single “Da smo se voljeli manje,” and Pogrebi & pomiriši (2017), which introduced a refreshed sound and artistic maturity.
Over the years, Jinx have earned numerous music awards and built a loyal fanbase. Their style is marked by melodic arrangements, clever lyrics, and a nostalgic yet modern feel. Today, they remain active and are considered one of the most beloved and enduring bands on the Croatian music scene.
