Jerry Cantrell

Jerry Cantrell (born March 18, 1966, in Tacoma, Washington) is an American musician best known as the founder, lead guitarist, co-vocalist, and primary songwriter of the band Alice in Chains. The band gained international fame in the early 1990s during Seattle's grunge movement, known for its dark sound and vocal harmonies between Cantrell and Layne Staley, and later with William DuVall. Beyond his work with the band, Cantrell has pursued a successful solo career, releasing albums such as Boggy Depot (1998), Degradation Trip Volumes 1 & 2 (2002), and Brighten (2021). His style incorporates elements of heavy metal, blues, and country, and he's known for using the wah pedal and employing irregular rhythms. Cantrell has collaborated with numerous artists, including Ozzy Osbourne and Metallica, and has contributed to film soundtracks like The Cable Guy and John Wick: Chapter Two. His influence on the rock scene has been recognized with various accolades, including the "Riff Lord" title awarded by Metal Hammer in 2006.
