Il Volo is an Italian operatic pop trio consisting of Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto, and Gianluca Ginoble. Their musical style blends classical vocal techniques with pop melodies, creating a genre known as "popera."
Their career began in 2009 when they appeared individually on the Italian version of the British talent show "Ti lascio una canzone." After their success on the show, they decided to continue as a trio under the name Il Volo, which means "flight" in Italian, symbolizing their rise in the music world.
In 2015, Il Volo won the Sanremo Music Festival with the song "Grande amore," which they performed to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest that year, finishing third overall and first in the televote.
Their latest album, Ad Astra, was released in 2024 to mark the 15th anniversary of their career. The album features exclusively new songs, including the single "Capolavoro," with which they participated in the Sanremo Festival 2024.
