Idles are a British band formed in 2009 in Bristol, England. The lineup features Joe Talbot on vocals, Adam Devonshire on bass, Mark Bowen and Lee Kiernan on guitars, and Jon Beavis on drums. After years of honing their live act, they achieved a breakthrough in 2017 with the album Brutalism.
Their sound sits at the intersection of post-punk and punk rock: bold, raw, direct, yet capable of nuance and melody. Lyrically, Idles tackle social and political themes — gender, class, mental health, and the everyday struggles of modern life are all woven into their music.
Following Brutalism, the albums Joy as an Act of Resistance (2018), Ultra Mono (2020), and Crawler (2021) solidified their place in contemporary rock. What sets Idles apart is not only their ferocity on stage but also their sincerity and willingness to confront heavy subjects while maintaining a sense of community and energy.
In their artistic vision, Idles demonstrate that noise and aggression are not just about anger or rebellion — they can be conduits for empathy, change, and connection.
