Glen Hansard was born on April 21, 1970, in the Ballymun area of Dublin. At the age of 13, he left school to focus on performing as a busker on the streets of Dublin and in local pubs. He began his music career by forming the rock band The Frames in 1990, which became one of Ireland’s most prominent bands. Hansard was also a member of the folk rock duo The Swell Season, which gained international fame through the 2007 film Once. Their song "Falling Slowly" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
In addition to music, Hansard acted in the 1991 film The Commitments, playing the role of guitarist Outspan Foster. Over his career, he has released several solo albums including Rhythm and Repose (2012), Didn't He Ramble (2015), Between Two Shores (2018), and All That Was East Is West of Me Now (2023).
Hansard is known for his emotional live performances and his engagement with social issues. His music often reflects Irish folk musical heritage, and his voice and lyrics resonate strongly with audiences worldwide.
