Fontaines D.C. is an Irish post-punk band from Dublin, formed in the mid-2010s, that quickly gained international recognition for its distinctive artistic identity and strong poetic influence. The band consists of Grian Chatten (vocals), Carlos O’Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan III (bass), and Tom Coll (drums).
The members met while attending music college in Dublin, bonding over a shared passion for poetry, which became a defining element of their lyrical and musical style. In their early years, they self-released singles and performed extensively before signing with Partisan Records in 2018.
Their debut album Dogrel (2019) received widespread critical acclaim and earned nominations for major awards such as the Mercury Prize and Choice Music Prize. Their second album, A Hero’s Death (2020), written during touring, further established their reputation and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
The third album Skinty Fia (2022) marked a major milestone, reaching number one on the UK Albums Chart and winning the BRIT Award for Best International Act. Their fourth studio album, Romance (2024), reflects a continued evolution of their sound and artistic direction.
Their music blends raw post-punk energy with introspective, literature-inspired lyrics, often exploring themes of identity, place, and modern life.
Today, Fontaines D.C. stands as one of the leading bands of the modern post-punk revival, recognized for its authenticity, dynamic performances, and ongoing artistic growth.
