Empire of the Sun is an Australian electronic music duo formed in 2007 in Sydney. The project consists of Luke Steele, formerly of the alternative rock band The Sleepy Jackson, and Nick Littlemore, a member of the electronic act Pnau. The duo emerged from a desire to merge different musical backgrounds, blending electronic music, synth-pop, and alternative pop into a distinct and highly recognizable sound, complemented by a strong visual and conceptual identity.
They achieved international breakthrough with their debut album Walking on a Dream, released in 2008.
