Emir Hadžihafizbegović was born on August 20, 1961, in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina. After graduating from the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo in 1986, he began his acting career at the Puppet Theatre in Tuzla, later joining Sarajevo's National Theatre. During the wartime years, he served in the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
With over fifty film credits—including standout roles in When Father Was Away on Business, Remake, Grbavica, and Quo Vadis, Aida?—Hadžihafizbegović has become one of the region’s most distinguished actors. His portrayal of Ivo in These Are the Rules earned him the Best Actor award at the Venice Film Festival (Horizons section) and a Silver Bear nomination at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Off stage and screen, he served as Minister of Culture and Sport of Sarajevo Canton from 2007 to 2011, contributing to the cultural sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He lives between Sarajevo and Tuzla, is married, and is the father of two children.
