Edo Maajka

Edo Maajka, born Edin Osmić on December 22, 1978, in Brčko, is a Bosnian rapper, songwriter, and producer. During the war, he moved to Zagreb, where he completed high school. He later studied in Tuzla but left university to fully pursue his music career. He started out in the band Defence and gained recognition through his involvement with the FMJAM collective and the group Disciplinska Komisija, becoming known for socially engaged lyrics dealing with war, corruption, identity, and everyday life in the Balkans. His debut album, Slušaj mater (2002), was a breakthrough that established him as one of the leading voices in regional hip-hop. This was followed by acclaimed albums such as No Sikiriki (2004), Stig’o Ćumur (2006), Balkansko, a naše (2008), Štrajk mozga (2012), and Put u plus (2018), where he explored a variety of musical styles, from rap and funk to rock and electronic music. Edo is known for his sharp, emotional, and often humorous lyrics, as well as his strong stage presence. His storytelling approach blends satire with social critique, making his songs both entertaining and thought-provoking. Beyond music, Edo Maajka has worked on film projects, composed for theatre and film, and voiced characters in animated movies. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the development of hip-hop culture in the former Yugoslav region.
