Editors are a British indie rock and post-punk revival band formed in 2002 in Birmingham. The current lineup consists of Tom Smith (vocals, guitar, piano), Russell Leetch (bass, synth, backing vocals), Ed Lay (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Justin Lockey (guitar), Elliott Williams (keyboards, synth, guitar, vocals), and Benjamin John Power (electronics).
Their debut album, The Back Room (2005), featured hits like “Munich” and “Blood,” earning them a Mercury Prize nomination. The follow-up, An End Has a Start (2007), reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and included the single “Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors.” Their third album, In This Light and on This Evening (2009), solidified their reputation as a major force in alternative music.
Known for blending dark, atmospheric sounds with powerful melodies, Editors’ music often explores themes of loss, isolation, and hope. Albums like The Weight of Your Love, In Dream, Violence, and EBM reflect the band’s evolution toward richer, more experimental sonic landscapes.
The band has toured extensively and performed at major festivals across the globe. Their live shows are marked by intensity and emotional depth, with frontman Tom Smith’s commanding stage presence. In 2022, the addition of Benjamin John Power (aka Blanck Mass) pushed their sound further into electronic and industrial territory, opening a bold new chapter in the band’s artistic journey.
