Edin Dervišhalidović, professionally known as Dino Merlin, was born on September 12, 1962, in Sarajevo. He began his music career in 1983 by founding the band Merlin, where he served as the lead singer and songwriter. The band gained widespread popularity across the former Yugoslavia, known for its powerful albums and sold-out stadium concerts.
In the early 1990s, he launched his solo career under the name Dino Merlin and quickly rose to become one of the most influential artists in the Balkans. His solo albums, including Moja bogda sna, Sredinom, Burek, Ispočetka, Hotel Nacional, and the recent Mi, showcase his ability to blend pop, rock, traditional Balkan elements, and modern production.
He represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Eurovision Song Contest three times—1993, 1999, and 2011. He is also the author of “Jedna si jedina,” the country’s first national anthem after independence. His album Hotel Nacional achieved international success and entered the Billboard World Albums chart, while his accompanying world tour drew massive audiences across continents.
