Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, known professionally as Daddy Yankee, was born on February 3, 1977, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of reggaeton and one of the most influential Latin music artists of all time. He began his music career in the 1990s, releasing his debut album No Mercy in 1995.
Initially aspiring to become a professional baseball player, a bullet wound from a stray shooting incident redirected his path toward music. His breakthrough came in 2004 with the release of Barrio Fino, featuring the hit single “Gasolina,” which became a global sensation and brought reggaeton to the mainstream.
Daddy Yankee built his career through energy, charisma, and musical innovation. He collaborated with major international artists and participated in worldwide hits such as “Despacito” and “Con Calma.” His music blends reggaeton, hip hop, dancehall, and other genres, creating a sound that resonates across cultures and continents.
In March 2022, he released his final studio album Legendaddy, followed by a farewell tour titled "La Última Vuelta." The tour included nearly 90 performances and attracted millions of fans. At his final concert in December 2023, he officially announced his retirement from music, stating he would dedicate his future to faith and family.
