Chris Norman, born on October 25, 1950, in Redcar, England, is a British singer and songwriter best known as the original lead vocalist of the band Smokie. He rose to international fame in the 1970s with hits like “Living Next Door to Alice,” “If You Think You Know How to Love Me,” and “Lay Back in the Arms of Someone.” His distinctive raspy voice became the band’s signature sound.
In 1986, he left Smokie to pursue a solo career. His song “Midnight Lady” became a massive hit across Europe, especially in Germany where it topped the charts for weeks. Other solo successes followed, including “Some Hearts Are Diamonds,” “Broken Heroes,” and “Jealous Heart.”
Over the decades, Norman has released more than twenty solo albums, showcasing a blend of rock ballads, pop melodies, and emotional lyrics.
