Charli XCX (Charlotte Emma Aitchison) was born on August 2, 1992, in Cambridge, England. She began her career in 2008 sharing songs on MySpace, and rose to prominence with her 2012 feature on Icona Pop’s “I Love It.” Her debut album True Romance followed in 2013, and Sucker arrived in 2014, yielding international hits like “Fancy” and “Boom Clap.”
Her artistic identity was further developed through experimental releases such as the Vroom Vroom EP (2016), followed by acclaimed mixtapes Number 1 Angel and Pop 2 (2017). The 2019 album Charli and the lockdown-composed How I’m Feeling Now (2020) showcased her boundary-pushing approach. In 2022 she released Crash, her first UK and Australian number-one album, while Brat (2024) became her cultural breakthrough with its bold rave-pop sound and the “Brat Summer” aesthetic.
She supported Brat with a global Brat Tour from November 2024 through August 2025, opening for Shygirl in the UK leg and Finn Keane in the U.S.
In May 2025, she revealed plans for her next body of work, possibly inspired by Lou Reed–era rock, and expressed no concern if it underperforms compared to Brat, embracing artistic freedom over expectations. Concurrently, she’s stepping into film: she stars in and produces The Moment (released via A24) and has several feature roles lined up.
In July 2025, Charli married George Daniel (The 1975 drummer) at a small London ceremony, with plans for a larger celebration in Sicily. Their personal and creative partnership reflects Charli’s evolving artistic journey.
Charli XCX remains one of the most daring pop innovators, known for her genre-defying music, visual boldness, and fearless embrace of self-expression.
