Calum Scott was born on October 12, 1988, in Beverley, Yorkshire, England, and grew up near Hull. Before pursuing music professionally, he worked in human resources and performed in Maroon 4, a Maroon 5 tribute band. His breakthrough came in 2015 on Britain’s Got Talent, when his audition of “Dancing On My Own” earned him Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer and propelled him to public attention—he eventually finished sixth.
In 2016, Scott released his own version of “Dancing On My Own,” which became one of the UK’s best-selling singles that summer. His debut album, Only Human, arrived in 2018 and featured the hit “You Are the Reason,” recorded as a duet with Leona Lewis. The song amassed over a billion views on YouTube and sold millions of copies. In 2021, he released a set of EPs (Only Acoustic, Only Collabs, Only Love), followed by his second studio album Bridges in 2022, anchored by the singles “Biblical,” “Rise,” “If You Ever Change Your Mind,” and “Heaven.”
Scott has spoken openly about his struggles with mental health, body dysmorphia, and accepting himself as a gay man. He described a dark period when he contemplated suicide, but sought help through therapy and support. He advocates for mental health awareness and has discussed plans to start a family via surrogacy.
In February 2023, he featured on Jax Jones’s single “Whistle,” and later released “At Your Worst,” which charted in the UK. He announced his third studio album, Avenoir, scheduled for release on September 12, 2025. The album explores themes of memory, regret, and enduring love, with a supporting world tour set to visit Europe, North America, and South Africa.
Calum Scott is known for his emotionally resonant ballads, soulful voice, and sincere songwriting. His ability to forge genuine connections, coupled with his artistic growth, has made him one of the most influential British pop artists of the early 2020s.
