Bijelo Dugme is a legendary rock band from Sarajevo, formed in 1974. Widely regarded as the most successful rock group in former Yugoslavia, they fused hard rock, folk elements, and glam aesthetics, sparking "Dugmemania" with their debut Kad bi' bio bijelo dugme. Led by songwriter Goran Bregović with Željko Bebek, Ipe Ivandić, Vlado Pravdić, and Zoran Redžić, the band quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Initially blending folk-rock, they later embraced a new wave sound while maintaining experimental and artistic integrity through the late ’80s.
Changes in vocalists brought Mladen Vojičić Tifa and Alen Islamović into the lineup, expanding their musical range and output. Throughout their career, they released over ten studio albums, known for symphonic ballads, ambitious live performances (notably the massive Hajdučka česma concert), and lyrics occasionally reflecting social and political themes.
In the early 2000s, the band reunited for one of the most attended concerts in the region. In 2024, they embarked on a 50th-anniversary reunion tour. Bijelo Dugme remains a symbol of Yugoslav rock and a cultural emblem that shaped generations.
