Amon Amarth is a Swedish melodic death metal band formed in 1992 in Tumba. Their name originates from the Sindarin language and refers to Mount Doom from J. R. R. Tolkien’s fictional universe, reflecting their strong connection to epic and mythological themes.
The band’s musical identity is deeply rooted in Norse mythology and Viking history, often leading to their classification as “Viking metal,” although they prefer the term melodic death metal. Their songs are characterized by powerful storytelling, bringing to life tales of gods, warriors, and mythological worlds through intense and melodic compositions.
The lineup consists of vocalist Johan Hegg, guitarists Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Söderberg, bassist Ted Lundström, and drummer Jocke Wallgren. Over the years, they have built a strong international fanbase through energetic live performances and a consistent evolution of their sound.
