Alt‑J (stylized as alt‑J or Δ) is a British indie rock band formed in 2007 in Leeds by Joe Newman (vocals/guitar), Thom Sonny Green (drums), and Gus Unger‑Hamilton (keyboards/vocals), with Gwil Sainsbury as an original member. Their debut album An Awesome Wave (2012) earned them the prestigious Mercury Prize and became a pivotal release in modern indie rock. The follow-up This Is All Yours (2014) debuted at number one on the UK charts, followed by the experimental Relaxer (2017) and The Dream (2022), showcasing their continued evolution.
