Adi Smolar

Adi Smolar (born 25 March 1959 in Slovenj Gradec, then SFR Yugoslavia) is a Slovenian singer-songwriter, composer, and musician. In his youth, he played accordion and clarinet and sang in choirs; he picked up the guitar at age 18. His first public performance was in 1981, and after years of gigs, he released his debut cassette Naš svet se pa vrti in 1989. He has since released over 15 albums, including Neprilagojen (1994), Je treba delat (1999), Brez dlake na jeziku (2008), and Prav zdaj (2018). His music blends folk and rock with witty, socially aware, and introspective lyrics. Beyond music, he authors children’s books (such as Pujsa in Andrej Migec), known for his empathetic insight into daily life and warm humor. He continues to perform across Slovenia and remains a seminal figure of the singer-songwriter tradition.
