The Cow Ball is not just an event - it is a celebration of the heart, tradition and community. Join us and
experience Bohinj in its most authentic and joyful image.

In the embrace of the beautiful nature of Ukanc, a unique Bohinj story comes to life every year - the Cow Ball, the
oldest and most authentic event in Bohinj. Its beginnings date back to the 1950s, when at the end of the grazing and
tourist season, locals, mountaineers and restaurateurs would celebrate a successful summer together.
Today, more than 60 years later, this holiday is still proudly organized by theBohinj Tourist Association,
faithful to tradition and respect for mountaineer life.
The central event is the arrival of mountaineers from higher-lying mountains, who bring beautifully decorated herds
of livestock to the valley and carry their“basenga” on their shoulders – all the tools they need for life and
work on the mountain. This spectacle is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m., and the entire event will take place from
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visitors will be greeted by a rich all-day program, imbued with an authentic atmosphere of
tradition, co-created by performances by folk musicians, folklore groups and a brass band. Special attention will be
paid, as every year, to the youngest, as we will offer a variety of children's animations and creative workshops at
the Cow Ball. The event will also impress with an excellent offer of homemade food from the local Farmer's Kitchen -
from traditional žganci and cabbage with cracklings, sausages and sour milk to delicious sausages that will conjure
up authentic flavors of the Slovenian countryside. The highlight of the musical event will be the popular Saša
Avsenika Ensemble, which will connect all generations of visitors with its energy and recognizable melodies.
The event will also be given a special charm by the extremely rich fair offer, where local vendors will present a
variety of products - from homemade cheeses and bee products to embroidery, unique jewelry, wooden products and dry
goods. The event will also be complemented by fun farm games, which will bring plenty of laughter, socializing and
reviving old customs.
Free bus transportation to and from the event from most Bohinj villages will be organized for visitors, which will
enable easy and carefree arrival and departure. The timetable will be published in the week before the event. For
parking, we recommend the Danica and Kobla parking lots in Bohinjska Bistrica.
