Museum of Lost Tales is a unique multimedia venue that brings to life the richness of Croatia’s intangible heritage through the visionary work of multimedia artist Zdenko Bašić. Designed like a magical house of wonders, this immersive space invites visitors into a world of mythical beings, fairies, witches, and forgotten legends rooted in Croatian folklore.
Based on personal childhood memories and field research across abandoned villages and ancient forests, Bašić combines illustration, scenography, puppetry, models, and modern media to create an enchanting, multisensory experience. The museum offers a rare opportunity to step into a forgotten mythical past and feel it come alive through a distinctive artistic lens.
Most stories originate from northwestern Croatia—Medvednica, the Sava Valley, and the Samobor Hills—but also include folklore from Turopolje, Bilogora, Istria, Kvarner, Dalmatia, and Velebit. The museum weaves these narratives into a magical and nearly forgotten map of Croatia, reimagined and revived in Bašić’s unique, immersive style.
